Capturing multiple cameras

Modern computers have no problems to collect data from four to six DV cameras.

Most notebooks will be limited to three cameras due to hard disk performance. Desktop computers can use multiple Firewire adapters and a second hard disk to do so.

High-end computers will be needed to capture video stream from other digital cameras. Usually each camera has to be written to a separate hard disk and needs a Firewire bus of its own.
DV cameras cannot be synchronized (genlocked). You can use algorithms like the "software genlock" (Pourcelot 2000 in J.o.Biomechanics 33) or measure the time difference of several cameras during capturing.

Some digital cameras can be synchronized by using special commands which are transfered by Firewire or by connecting "trigger" signal cables.
